Allowing Two Users to Manage a Kerio Connect Resource or Room

Posted on March 18, 2010

We get these sorts of requests a lot.

In Kerio Mailserver/Connect – How do you allow two users to manage an iCal calendar for a Resource or Room?

The default is that there is only one “Reservation Manager”, who can edit the calendar – everyone else can “invite the resource” but only to see if it’s available or not.

So the workaround to do this is to share the calendar to another user and give them Editors rights, as per below:

  1. Log into the Administration.  Generally the address looks like https://your.mailserver/admin
  2. Assign a user as the “Reservation Manager” – in this instance, Administrator.
  3. - Login as that user into the Webmail. In the example I’ve logged in as “Administrator”.
  4. - From the Settings section, Choose “Subscribe Shared Folders”
  5. Enter the email address of the resource – in my example “trainingroom”.
  6. Subscribe to the calendar as provided by ticking the tickbox next to “Calendar”, and clicking “OK”.
  7. At the bottom of the window, you’ll see the calendar appear.  Right-click on it and Go to “Access Rights.
  8. Add the user (in this case “david” to the list who should be able to edit the calendar, and make them an “editor”.
  9. They should now have rights in both Webmail and iCal. Note this only works for users, not for groups.

Any questions comments – please add them below.

Isn’t easier to add a user group containing two users as a Reservation Manager? Much less work and much more scalable.

Yes but having a group as reservation manager appears to work in Outlook and Webmail, but not iCal. I’ve seen this on other CalDAV platforms as well.

This way seems to work consistently across the board. I’ll be sure to keep testing this as new releases of Kerio and iCal come along (and then this blog entry will get a lot shorter!)

    Thanks for your feedback!
